The latest rumors indicate that the DJI Mavic 3 may include optical image stabilization (OIS) developed in-house by DJI. The launch date for this new foldable quadcopter has, however, been pushed back from early summer to September as the Chinese drone maker had to overcome a number of smaller challenges in the development of this new unmanned aircraft.
Optical image stabilization likely included in DJI Mavic 3 specs
In a tweet this morning, drawings were shown from the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration that showed a new optical image stabilization (OIS) system that’s DJI is currently working on.
Based on the information that we have received from industry insiders, it appears likely that this optical image stabilization system will be included in the new specifications for the DJI Mavic 3 foldable quadcopter.
We have learned that the DJI Mavic 3 will be significantly larger than the outgoing model and will include features such as 360° obstacle-avoidance, and possibly a micro 4/3 camera system with interchangeable lenses and optical image stabilization.
Optical image stabilization is an important feature not only for super smooth, cinematic video footage but also for low-light still photography with slower shutter speeds.
The main reason for the launch of the new DJI Mavic 3 being pushed back to September has to do with issues linked to obstacle-avoidance hardware as well as other software challenges related to dual IMUs.
If all the new specs that we expect for the DJI Mavic 3 come to fruition, this new drone will seal the fate of the DJI Phantom drone series as this new Mavic will be one heck of an unmanned aircraft.
