Men arrested for marijuana drone delivery in Tel Aviv.

Two men were arrested today for attempting a marijuana drone delivery.  A green drone group, promoting marijuana legalization, were dropping packets of what was assumed to be marijuana.

One activist group, promoting the legalization of marijuana stated they would be “giving away free cannabis from the skies.” Social media followers just had to show up at Rabin Square today to witness the drone delivery.

Reuters reports: “The time has come,” the Green Drone pro-legalization group said.

“Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the Green Drone sending you free cannabis from the skies.”

In a statement, law enforcement suspected the bags were filled with “a dangerous drug” and that officers managed to recover many of them.

Photos widely distributed by law enforcement showed what appeared to be cannabis inside.

Currently, medical use of cannabis is permitted in Israel, yet recreational use is illegal but decriminalized.  Israel voted in May to approve exporting Medical grade marijuana to other countries.  While businesses can export medical marijuana, it is illegal for residents to consumer recreational weed.

The drone delivery stunt started on social media and even created branded cards and baggies.  After the drone delivery took place, police arrested two men who operated the quadcopter.
