Buy A Mavic 2 Pro or Wait For the Mavic 3 Pro?

Buy A Mavic 2 Pro or Wait For the Mavic 3 Pro?

While pilots clamor for the release of the Mavic 3 Pro, veteran pilots argue you might want to buy another Mavic 2 Pro instead of waiting for the Mavic 3 Pro release.

The question has been arising across many of the facebook groups, should you wait to buy the Mavic 3 or buy a Mavic 2 Pro?  Drone pilots are expecting DJI to crush the competition and offer a drone platform unlike anything we have ever seen!

Recently in a drone facebook group, one particular drone dealer was complaining about the Mavic 3 rumors.  The drone dealer was specifically stated how sales fall off as drone pilots wait for the latest and greatest drone to arrive.

Albeit many experienced drone pilots are brushing off this concern.  Commercial drone pilots are taking note of the ever changing regulatory environment .  If some of the proposed regulations are put into place, many of the drones we fly today wouldn’t meet the proposed requirements.  Albeit, for pilots who plan to fly as normal without compliance, the Mavic 2 Pro offers extreme value.

How does the Mavic 2 Pro offer drone pilots, who plan to not comply with Remote ID, any value?  The Mavic 2 Pro offers the most up to date autonomous features, but can also be hacked to unlock flight modes and more. It is one of the last drones that DJI Assistant V1 can read and connect to, making modifications easy.

The Mavic 2 Pro offers drone pilots the ability to capture video in amazing color and create hyper-lapses to add incredibly valuable b-roll.  Hacking this drone means drone pilots can have ultimate control.  Pilots should remember, if they modify their drone, they are still ultimately responsible for any and all flight.

Some readers may be surprised to know  how many drone pilots approved of the proposed Remote ID rules. Shockingly, only 23.56% of respondents agreed the proposed Remote ID rules were a positive step forward for the drone industry. 76.44% of Respondents do not see RID as a positive step forward.

The question persists, should drone pilots buy the Mavic 2 Pro or wait for the Mavic 3?  As an experienced drone pilot myself, let me provide some reasons as to why we are buying more Mavic 2 Pro’s instead of counting our chickens before they hatch.

As a drone pilot, clandestine flight is almost necessary to avoid civilian accosting.  The Mavic 2 Pro offers quiet flight while still operating like a solid aircraft in a wide range of flight.  You can take a M2P just about anywhere and take off without bugging your neighbors on the beach.

While many love the M2P for action sports filming, the center of gravity on the Phantom, fundamentally offers more maneuverability.   The Mavic 2 Pro is by Far the best Aerial Photography drone on the market. When you combine the ability to hack the drone, stay clandestine and take incredible industry leading photos…. its easy to understand why so many trust the Mavic 2 Pro.

Proven Features vs. Hype.

After flying drones for more than a decade now, I’ve learned what the best drone in the fleet looks like.  The best drone in the fleet is the drone that can get the job done…consistently.

As a commercial pilot or even a recreational pilot, my tech mind would want a drone that allows me to track wakeboarders and make 3D models of cool architecture.  The best drone in the fleet can fly subject tracking or map. That said, these older drones allow pilots to remain ultimately responsible. They also have attitude mode, which allows users to avoid a fly-away.

The Mavic 3 pro may have incredible software limitations. We have seen a clear pattern of DJI drones have increasingly limited maneuverability and modification deficiency. The drone will most likely not fly as aggressively as the current Mavic 2 Pro. Drone pilots are also afraid DJI will further inhibit where you can fly even more. So most of the drone pilots I’ve asked have said, no waiting for the Mavic 3.  They would prefer to buy the Mavic 2 Pro because they know exactly what the aircraft is capable of consistently delivering.  The drone also offers unprecedented safety with attitude mode and other modifications.

FAQs

1. How do I know what drone to buy?

The best way to know which drone to buy is by carefully evaluating your needs.

Ask yourself what features you prioritize and look out for them when comparing different models.

2. What drone should I get as a beginner?

Drones like the RyzeTech Tello, DJI Mini 3, and Holy Stone HS900 are ideal for beginners thanks to their user-friendly nature and affordability.

3. What is the 1:1 rule for drones?

It's important to ensure the safety of others when flying your drones, and one major way to do so is by complying with the 1:1 rule.

According to this rule, for every meter your drone is flying above the ground, it must maintain at least an equivalent horizontal distance from any uninvolved person.

4. What is considered a good drone?

Typically, a good drone:

  • is easy to operate
  • has a stable camera with high-resolution
  • offers sufficient flight time and range
  • provides robust safety and GPS capabilities.
