Skydio relaunches drone sales and launches a new software update to increase the capability of the drone.
Skydio, an american Drone Manufacturer, just announced that they will relaunch sales of the Skydio 2. New with the relaunch, drone pilots can see increased capability, safety and new features!
Skydio has launched a software update for their Skydio 2 Drones as they have revamped production to meet demand. While COVID-19 has effectively ceased manufacturing for many drone companies, Skydio has been hit especially hard as they’re based in California. Now Skydio is excited to continue growing drone sales and features of their very popular action sports drone.
Today, Skydio tweeted “We’re back,” showcasing that they are now back to manufacturing the widely acclaimed Skydio 2 drone.
Albeit, now the drone will have much needed safety features with a recent software update. Drone pilots rejoice as the drone can now follow objects from further distances, depending on which remote you use. While some of these features offer increased safety, like the ability to control the drone while landing, many of the features offer increased capability.
What’s new in this Skydio software update? Pretty simply, Skydio 2 now offers:
- Increased the flight range or ” follow me distance” on Beacon Tracking
- From 10 meters to 40 meters
- Increased follow me distance from Phone application
- Skydio added Orbit Mode Now available on the beacon remote
- Much needed “hover” mode now available on the beacon remote
- Skydio created safer landings through Case Landing Mode
- Now you can control the landing when the Skydio 2 Lands
- New Light communication Mode to display Yellow when Skydio 2 has obstacle avoidance off
With many of these software updates, these features make the drone much more capable. Adventure videographers will be excited to see these new added features. With increased follow me distance, drone pilots can expect the Skydio drone to keep up with faster subjects. We would imagine with this increased distance that the skydio would be able to re-follow a lost subject with greater ease.
At Drone U, we want to see drone pilots succeed, as such we would recommend not to trust your phone for the follow me feature. As Skydio has already stated, a really good GPS signal is needed for follow me to work with your phone.
Frankly, we recommend purchasing the remote and the beacon to get the most out of the follow me functionality. Many drone pilots who purchased the Skydio have been waiting to receive their orders. While Skydio is back to manufacturing, is it too little too late to full-fill the backlog of orders?
Rumors suggested that some pilots decided that the drone wouldn’t help them commercially and cancelled their orders. We also know of some pilots who loyally await to receive their drone.
Additional rumors swirl that Skydio is positioning to take on DJI and open an American manufacturing facility.
